Watching England football supporters

Filed under: diary,Fox News — Trefor Davies @ 4:10 pm

Watching England football supporters is often more entertaining than the game itself. I’m not saying this was the case last night but the fans go from highs to lows and back to highs again, depending on their team’s on-pitch performance. One minute they are super critical and the next the team is the best thing since sliced bread. I went to bed before it all started last night.

It’s eight twenty six and I am having a leisurely start to the day. THG has already had breakfast, she will be off to her devotions in a bit, but I am in no rush. The conservatory door is open but I had to move in to the front room as the sun was quite dazzling. I’ll need to water the garden later, a bigger task than normal due to the hosepipe ban. Important plants only. Plus the lake needs topping up and the bird bath is empty. Priorities. The birds use both the bath and the lake. It’s nice watching a blackbird splashing around.

Yesterday I moved one of the trailcams away from the lake. There was too much regular movement there. It did serve a purpose in identifying the pesky pigeons as the root cause of plant vandalism and I have now moved the vulnerable plants to a different part of the lake that gets less avian traffic. This time the cam is plonked on the lawn pointing in the direction of one of the fox paths through the hedge.

Just checked and yes indeed, Reynard or a close relative mosied by at ten pm last night. Clocked the new object on the lawn, paused briefly but then continued its night time perambulations. The hedgehog was also evident at around four am.

The trailcam, formerly known as Raised Beds Cam though I might rename it as Oak Log Cam or similar, is now screwed firmly onto a heavy oak log that can be moved around as required.

Today’s evening meal will comprise of a marinated bit of pork along with some homegrown veggies: spuds, courgettes, green beans and tomatoes. THG picked some toms from the greenhouse this morning and has left me with instructions to retrieve one that fell down between the side of the raised bed and the greenhouse wall. Not sure how that will work but will allocate some bandwidth to the job. In fact I might do it before breakfast and ceremonially eat the recovered tomato. “The ceremony of the consumption of the tomato”. Sounds like a time old mediterranean custom designed to celebrate the first harvest of the season. We’ve been picking tomatoes for a few days but that shouldn’t be a reason to stop a good party.

Decided that was enough ritin for now but Facebook has a temporary issue and asked if I wouldn’t mind coming back in a bit so I’ve parked it.

This pm we are going to stroll to the Bail as there is a 40s weekend on in Lincoln. As I said to THD you can never have enough WW2 memorabilia and there are stalls in Castle Hill apaz.
